Our department prides itself on having a team of highly qualified faculty members, many of whom are recognized experts in their respective fields of research and teaching. Their work, published in prestigious international journals, contributes significantly to the advancement of plant sciences. The faculty also engages in collaborative research projects with national and international institutions, ensuring that students benefit from exposure to cutting-edge research trends.

Industrial Collaboration and Industry-Oriented Curriculum

To ensure our curriculum remains relevant to the demands of the ever-evolving industry, we offer an advanced, industry-oriented syllabus that equips students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today’s competitive job market. The department has formed strategic MoUs with major research institutes and industry leaders, facilitating research training, internships, and on-the-job training activities. These collaborations allow students to engage directly with industry practices, helping them gain valuable real-world experience and enhancing their employability.

Training Programs and Consultancy

In addition to our academic offerings, the department organizes specialized training programs in areas such as mushroom cultivation, nursery management, and biodiversity conservation. These initiatives empower students with industry-specific skills that are highly sought after in fields like agriculture, horticulture, and environmental management. Furthermore, we provide consultancy services for plant identification, contributing to biodiversity research and the needs of industries and organizations requiring expert botanical knowledge.

Ph.D. Research Center in Botany

The department has a well-established Ph.D. Research Center in Botany, providing an excellent platform for aspiring researchers to undertake advanced studies in diverse areas of plant biology. The Ph.D. program encourages interdisciplinary research and is supported by an advanced research infrastructure, access to extensive botanical collections, and the department’s active collaboration with leading research institutes. Ph.D. students are mentored by faculty members who are experts in fields such as plant pathology, Molecular biology, angiosperm taxonomy, phytochemistry, plant-microbe interaction, pharmacognocy, nanotechnology and plant biotechnology, preparing them for careers in academia, research, and industry.

Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Engagement

We also emphasize the importance of co-curricular and extracurricular engagement. Students are encouraged to participate in activities such as Avishkar, Student Research Scheme, national and international conferences, and various academic and cultural competitions. These activities promote creativity, leadership, and communication skills, all of which are essential for a well-rounded education.

Achievements and Recognition

Our department has earned a stellar reputation for academic excellence, demonstrated through consistently outstanding results at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The department’s contributions to research and education have been recognized through its Star Status by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and funding from the DST FIST program. We are also recognized for our innovative research and community involvement, making significant contributions to biodiversity conservation and sustainable agricultural practices.
